A windy idea from a windy coast24.01.2008

Picture of the day

Have a look at the East Coast near Dunedin. Its wicked and awesome, as Kiwis say.

Chris from the Polytechnicum in Dunedin showed us his idea of energy storage. One of the very big challenges for the future is the question: How are we going to store energy? His idea is as simple as amazing: Two wind turbines on the roof are directly connected to a compressor. The wind is compressing air into a tank, which is situated under the house. Whenever you need electricity, start a little generator, which makes energy out of the compressed air. It would be simple, reliable and (most important!) affordable!
