Solartaxi has arrived in Indonesia for World Climate Conference29.11.2007

Picture of the day

After a few days of negociations, discussions and paper production we have been allowed to import the solartaxi today. That wasnt so easy and we were quite unsure if this will really work out. Because Inodensia is not permitting foreign registrated cars. So the first thing I heard when I came here: "You need a working permit to drive your car here!" "And how long does it take to obtain one?" I wanted to know. "3 months!" Obvisoulsy, there must have been a missunderstanding, as someone at the customs must have thought that I want to drive a taxi around Bali. But I am not a taxi driver, I am here for the UNFCCC conference for climate change!! So finally we got all permissions today. But not only that: We have even received a permit from the Police to drive the car all over Bali, with Indonesian number plates!

I must say, I was not expecting things to happen that fast, so I like Indonesia... In general, this is a very peaceful pleace. Unlike India, we dont need to blow the horn all the time, the roads are good and traffic quite relaxed. People are also very friendly and relaxed. Its a happy island here. For the conference, Police and military have now started blocking the roads and patroling the streets. 10000 to 15000 participants are being expected, and the same number of Police and military should be stationed here, too. Now we have started to put the solartaxi together. The next few days we will prepare everything, so that we should also be ready when the conference starts.
