It will go to universities to communicate with students today. It started its journey from Switzerland last July. Its China tour will take 39 days and finish 6419 miles. Its trip in China is about to end in Beijing.

Swiss Solartaxi to tour the world arrived in Kunming, starting its China 39 day trip in China. The eye-catching innovative environmental-friendly car will stay in Kunming for two days to promote the renewable and clean energy concept. The Solartaxi, the first solar car to drive around the world, will start its 39 day environmental awareness-raising tour of China in Kunming. The Solartaxi is a showcase of Swiss innovation and the forward-looking research and solutions practiced in Switzerland with respect to renewable energy and environmental protection. Solartaxi visited local landmark places yesterday afternoon and attracted a big crowd of citizens. Mr. Louis Palmer, the initiator and organizer of the world tour commented, “I am honoured to visit China before the Olympics, and I look forward to meeting with environmental advocates and discussing options for the future. And people are welcome to ride on the Solartaxi” In Kunming it will visit students today. The China tour of the Solartaxi started in Yunnan province and will pass Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces, to finally visit Shanghai and Beijing. In 39 days it will travel 6,419 km. The Solartaxi was designed and developed by four Swiss technical universities, with support from leading Swiss technology companies who provided most of the materials for the car. The vehicle generates 50% of its energy from a trailer equipped with high-efficiency solar cells. The other 50% of the car’s energy needs are fed into the electrical grid from a solar station in Switzerland. In the sun, the vehicle can run non-stop for 400km; without sunshine it can travel 300km. A 100% climate friendly vehicle, the taxi emits no exhaust and produces no CO2. Vice Mayor of Kunming, Mr. Wang Xiaoguang and Mr. Terence Billeter, Head of culture, media, Embassy of Switzerland in China attended a welcome ceremony yesterday.
