Meeting Rudi and his Vegi Oil Mercedes in Sydney30.01.2008

Guess who we met in Sydney?! Our travel mate Rudi from Lucerne, Switzerland, travelling overland in a vegi oil 1982 Mercedes. The last time we met was in Jordan, and Rudi had escorted us across the Saudi desert to Dubai. We had continued to India, Bali and NZ, while Rudi had taken a boat to Perth.
It was actually funny to see that Rudi was stopped by the Police two times in 5 minutes. The first time they said he had aparently not given the right of way to a Police car which was standing on the side of the road, and the second time another policeman thought that his Swiss number plate was self made, he had to check it. Welcome to Australia! How will it go with a whole car which is self made ??
Today we got clearance from the customs. The solartaxi as well as the support vehicle are out of the container and officially imported, we are on the road!! But first of all we had to rush into Bob's welding shop. Our rear suspension is cracked again, the fourth time. But no matter how many Police cars will stop us, how many people sit on our solar cells, how often we have to weld our chassis or how many times our wheels fall off ... the solartaxi will make its way!
We stay in SYD until SUN, then we are going to be in Canberra on TUE and WED, then in MEL from the 15. - 17. Feb, for the Sustainable Living Festival. In Perth we should arrive on 4. March. Hope to see you out there somewhere!!
