First days on the high sea19.12.2007

Picture of the day

We are already spending the fourth day on board of the world's most famous ship, the "Rainbow Warrior". We are right now somewhere north of the Island of Lombok, between beatiful islands and high vulcanoes, which hide behind the clouds. We got used to this new life quite quickly. The second day already we got instructions how to wear the life jackets, and we had the first fire drill. We have been instructed what to do in case of fire: We have to help the two firemen to geting into their suits. We also learnt how to clean the kitchen and the gangways.

The days are very well structured: Breakfast from 7:30 - 8, Lunch from 12 to 12:30, and dinner from 18 to 18:30. At the moment I am struggling a little bit with Sea sickness, but this should be over in about 2 days. Otherwise there is not too much happening, the sky is mostly cloudy, and sometimes it rains. Yesterday's highlight was a beautiful sunset, and the day today started with a dolphin alarm. About a dozen of dolphins swam around the boat, but until I had grabed my camera, they were already gone. So I better leave my camera on the bridge, so next time I can react faster. We get lots of sleep and we can relax well. The whole trip will take almost 4 weeks.
