The early beginnings go back to the middle-seventies to South Africa, where the basic invention was made. From there it went to Germany and the UK until it was advanced in Switzerland, from where the production started recently.

Compared to one lead acid battery storing 30 Wh/kg, one nickel-cadmium battery stores 50 Wh/kg, one nickel-metal hydride storage accumulates 60 Wh/kg and one lithium-ion accumulator reaches 100 Wh/kg.

Benefit 1

A ZEBRA-battery can be charged about 1,000 times. This is equivalent to the solartaxi covering a distance of 200,000 - 400,000 km. In contrast to the nickel-cadmium battery, the ZEBRA battery works without any memory effect, which means it's not necessary to discharge the battery fully.

Benefit 2

While storing 14,1 kWh the differnt battery types cost in comparison:

  • lead acid battery: 1,700 €
  • nickel-cadmium battery: 5,600 €
  • ZEBRA-battery: 8,000 €, but the price is supposedly sinking with an increased production (approximately under 2,000 €)

Benefit 3: security checks passed

The following defined tests from the European Auto industry and the USABC could be passed:

  • Crash tests on 50 km/h
  • overcharge- and low discharging tests
  • short-circuit tests
  • vibration tests
  • external fire test
  • underwater tests

The warm heart of the car

To keep the eloctrolyte salt liquid, the battery requires a working temperature between 270° and 350 °C. Due to a vacuum-isolation, like also used in a thermos bottle, the exterior temperature seems to be only 5 to 10 degrees higher than the environmental temperature. The heat loss amounts merely 40 W.

Charging time

The battery can be charged on every regular 110 or 220 V power outlet. By using a quick charge it's possible to fill 50% of the whole capacity in 30 mins. The regular charging process takes 6 to 8 hours.

Applications

The ZEBRA-Batterie is a maintenance-free, long-living and very reliable device. This makes it particularly suitable for mobile applications like in cars, busses or transporters.

100 % recycable

ZEBRA-batteries do not consist of any harmful chemicals or poisonous materials. All materials can be recycled completely. The recycling is included in the price.
