Solartaxi in Israel05.11.2011

Picture of the day

Israeli NGO Ecocinema has invited the solartaxi for a tour across Israel to promote solar energy. The solartaxi was shipped by boat from Ravenna in Italy to the harbour of Haifa, from where we started this very succesful 8 day campain. I met Israel's environment minister as well as the speaker of the Knesset, and all major media of Israel were reporting, some of them even several times. I have hardly seen another country so far where people and the media is so open for solar power. Israel still depends on oil and coal from foreign countries, and the idea of energy independence is very popular. However, there is a lot to do until Israel will hopefully start great programs to build large solar power plants in the desert. But as long as fossil energy is being subsidized, it's hard to compete with the renewables. But the chances for Israel are substantial. I hope my tour had an effect on future decisions.
